S’East, S’South youths back Onu for SGF

Youths from the South East and South-South states under the aegis of the South East-South South Progressive Youths Front, SE-SSPYF, yesterday ap­pealed to President-elect, General Muhammadu Buhari, to appoint former Abia State governor, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, as Sec­retary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, to compensate the South East for losing out in the race for t Senate presiden­cy and speakership of the House of Representatives.

The youths, who spoke during an emergency meeting in Owerri, Imo State capital, also appealed to the president-elect to consider the youths in ap­pointive positions to en­able them contribute their quota to building a new Nigeria.

National president of the group, Godstime Sam­uel; National secretary, Ugochukwu Victor; Direc­tor of Information, Ogh­were Henry and vice pres­ident Alao Odion Ahmed, who were in attendance, urged Buhari to reserve the position of Minister of Youths and Sports De­velopment for a youth that would effectively galvan­ise and impact positively on youths under the Min­istry.

In a motion moved by Director of Information (Oghwere) and seconded by the vice president (Ahmed), the youth body passed a vote of confi­dence on Onu as a detrib­alised Nigerian, who had contributed immensely to the unity of the nation.

According to the group, the support for Onu as the next SGF was influenced by his visible contribu­tions to the development of the nation’s democ­racy, adding that his style of politics is a source of inspiration for Nigerian youths.

In a communiqué issued at the end of the meeting, the youths drawn from the all the local government areas of the South East and South-South states, expressed willingness to work with the in-coming administration, especially in the area of checking youth restiveness.
